DO YOU WANT TO FLY?

The dream of flying can be made a reality by learning to fly a hang glider or paraglider.   It is not as dangerous as it thought (people do not generally fall from the sky!) but it not a sport like jogging and requires knowledge of conditions and of oneself, also technique and experience with the flying machine, be it a paraglider of hang glider.  Our gliders pass and equivalent of an MOT and these days have a high level of passive security, not true of the pioneering days of the sport.  However, just as on the road, there are rules and you need to learn to fly in an authorised school under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Imagine flying ….in a paraglider
Can you image going to a mountain, taking some cloth from a rucksack and flying off
A paraglider has a similarity to a parachute but is a flying machine which glides rather than just slowing our descent.  The whole set up weights between 15 and 20kg in its rucksack.  You take off from the hillside after first inflating the canopy then running down slope to gain flying speed.  The pilot is seated in a harness and holds the controls, the brakes which he/she uses to control the glider often along with moving their weight in the harness to assist the turning of the glider.  A modern glider in still air can cover up to 10km from 1000m of height.  With the help of updrafts form thermals and slope winds the pilot may stay aloft for many hours cover great distances (281km is the best distance obtained  from out sites at present)

Do you want to fly – In a hang glider
Can you imagine having to wings and turning in thermals with the same posture as a bird?
Hang gliders are the flying machine closest to the dream of flying like birds.  Although modern paragliders can fly as high and almost as far as hang gliders, the latter transmits the movements of the air in the same manner as the great soaring birds.  The structure of a hang glider is of aluminium and carbon fibre, covered with a special synthetic cloth.  They are controlled by moving the body of the pilot within the A frame (a triangle from which the pilot hangs from the apex in an enclosed harness in a prone position).  The pilots movements transmits his weight to load more of less the fabric of the hang glider, modifying the aerofoil, reducing or incrementing the speed and allowing turning.

Do you want to fly : - in Tandem.
One safe and easy way to try flying is to fly with experienced pilots on a tandem.  Special models are used for tandem flights to carry two people with two harnesses.  The passenger need only run at the take off and later just enjoy the ride.
