Tandem record from Peña Negra.
In September 2008 Steve Ham took a journalist from the Diario de Avila on a tandem flight with the intention of making some photographs over the city of Avila during the XC Open internacional competition which was running at that time.
The flying conditions were excellent with the convergence at over 3000m. Although the journalist was sick three times, she bravely decided to continue the flight beyond Avila to try for a new Spanish tandem record. Steve and María landed at 6.45 as Steve had to fulfil his obligations as the Meet Director of the competition even though the conditions continued to be excellent until near 9pm.
Even with this early landing Steve beat his previous record from 1998 which he had made with his wife Puri (119km). This time the GPS gave 128km (142km with turnpoints)
