Over 300 shirts were sold during the summer, mainly to pilots from all over the world who came to Piedrahita, although also to others who wished to offer us support.
The idea of the club which represents more than 70 members from all over the world (Spain, Germany, France, Portugal, Switzerland,..) was to demonstrate in a friendly way that there is still much achieve so that flying tourists can count on suitable and safe flying in this marvellous area.
We believe there is no doubt about the potential of Piedrahita as a flying area and its ability to attract an important level of tourism. However, many problems, past and present have occurred due to the lack of organisation, determination and of a suitable infrastructure.
As a result of the activities of the club we can highlight that after our meeting with the President of the Provincial Government, a technician of the latter is preparing a project for improving the take off at Peña Negra. At the moment a plan is being drawn up which will satisfy our needs as pilots and an estimate of costs are being made and a form to pay for this improvement.
Here you can see the improvement we suggested [Memoria Vuelo Piedrahita.pdf]
We have been informed by the Town Hall of Piedrahita that they are negotiating a landing field for paragliding for this coming season.
The Club has presented two documents to the chief of the Servicio Territorial de Medioambiente de Ávila requesting authorisation for Solana de Ávila (south winds) and la Lastra del Cano (South and Southwest). If the request is granted then we must ask permission from the local town halls controlling these areas.
